From 1979 to November 1982, this coin was the only option available with the aforementioned fineness level. In November 1982, fractional-ounce gold coins were introduced for the first time and the fineness was boosted to .9999 purity.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2010 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins, you will find the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief without a crown on her head. This is the fourth-generation design created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt and was the first effigy of Her Majesty on Canadian coins to lack a crown. Inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, 50 DOLLARS, and 2010.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2010 Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coin comes with an image of the sugar maple leaf. Designed in 1979 by Walter Ott, the image shows a natural maple leaf in front-facing relief. The inscriptions on this side read CANADA, 9999, and 1 OZ FINE GOLD OR PUR.
History
Canadian Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins had a mintage of 1,036,832 coins in 2010. This was the second year in a row with a mintage in the series over one million and just the second date mark since 1986 to boast a mintage over one million coins.
