The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, affectionately known as the Mounties, is Canada’s national police service. The RCMP was formed in 1920 through the merger of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police and the Dominion Police, creating a unified force to maintain peace across Canada. In 2011, the Mounties were commemorated on a .99999 pure gold coin, one of the most refined coins ever minted by the Royal Canadian Mint. Now, 2011 Canadian Mountie Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins are available online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These 2011 Canadian Mountie Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, sealed within a Royal Canadian Mint assay card. The coin is encapsulated and secured inside the assay, with certification information printed in English and French on the card’s back.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2011 Canadian Mountie Maple Leaf Gold Coin presents a right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This design, the fourth and final effigy of the Queen on Canadian coins, was in use from 2004 until 2023. Susanna Blunt created this portrait, depicting the Queen without a crown. Inscriptions read ELIZABETH II, 200 DOLLARS, and 2011.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2011 Mountie Maple Leaf 1 oz Gold Coins, there is a detailed image of a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer on horseback. The Mountie is shown in right-profile relief, with a standard raised beside him. Inscriptions include CANADA, 99999, FINE GOLD, and 1 OZ OR PUR.
History
The RCMP originally focused on policing Canada’s expansive western and northern frontiers. The Mounties were essential in asserting Canadian sovereignty in these remote regions, often serving as the only government representatives. Their duties ranged from law enforcement and maintaining order to delivering mail and offering medical help to isolated communities.
