The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coin has been a prominent player in the gold bullion market since 1979. The initial release was a 1 oz gold coin with .999 pure gold content. The series expanded in 1982 to include fractional-ounce coins and was upgraded to .9999 pure gold. Currently, 2010 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2010 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coin is housed in a protective plastic flip to maintain its condition. As one of the smaller coins in the series, the 1/10 oz option is complemented by 1/20 oz and 1 Gram coins. Since November 1982, all Gold Maple Leaf Coins have been made with .9999 pure gold, also known as 24-karat gold.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2010 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin is Queen Elizabeth II, depicted in a portrait by Susanna Blunt. This design, used since 2003, represents the Queen without a crown. The inscriptions read ELIZABETH II, 5 DOLLARS, and 2010.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2010 Maple Leaf 1/10 oz Gold Coin features the sugar maple leaf, a design by Walter Ott introduced in 1979. This design is a key feature of the Gold Maple Leaf series and appears on the silver, platinum, and palladium versions as well. Inscriptions on this side read CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1/10 OZ OR PUR.
History
Launched in 1979, the Gold Maple Leaf series first featured 1 oz coins, with fractional-ounce coins introduced in 1982. The series later expanded to include 1/2 oz (1986), 1/20 oz (1993), and 1 Gram (2014) coins.
