This stunning 20th-anniversary 2006-W Proof American Eagle 3-Coin Set includes three different versions of the 2006 American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin. The traditional proof coin was already available in the series dating back to 1986. The new Burnished American Eagle with its matte visual appearance is brand-new as of 2006 and debuted in this set. The reverse proof has frosted background fields with mirrored design elements and was a special limited-edition strike for this set in 2006.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2006-W Proof American Eagle Silver coins in this set is the image of Walking Liberty. Designed by Adolph A. Weinman in 1916, it features Lady Liberty in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon. The image is symbolic of the nations march toward a brighter future amidst the turmoil of World War I in the 1910s.
Reverse
The reverse field of 2006 Proof American Eagle Silver Coins, you will find the heraldic eagle of the United States. The official seal of the country, it offers the image of a powerful bald eagle with the national heraldic shield on its chest. The eagle clutches the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other. Above its head is a cluster of 13 stars representing the original 13 colonies.
History
American Eagle Silver Coins debuted in 1986 from the US Mint. To mark the 20th anniversary, the three coins available in this set were produced together at the West Point Mint with W mint marks on the reverse fields.
