Obverse

For the obverse design of 2006 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins, the mint features the great pipe organ from Musikverein, a prestigious concert hall established in Vienna. The pipe organ is a fixed musical instrument built into the concert hall where the orchestra performs.Inscriptions on this side read REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, 1 UNZE GOLD 999.9, 2006, and 100 EURO.

Reverse

In the reverse design field of the 2006 Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin, you will find a series of musical instruments. Each one of these instruments is representative of the ones used by the members of the orchestra. Depicted in the design is a Vienna horn, bassoon, harp, and four violins with a cello in the center of the design field. The lone inscription on this side reads WEINER PHILHARMONIKER.

History

The release of only 82,174 coins in 2006 was notable in this series. Though the 2001 date mark remains the lowest, the 2006 date mark comes in as the second-lowest date in the history of the series.
