The obverse design of the 2003 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins features the grandeur of the Great Pipe Organ. This masterpiece, installed in the early 1900s, represents the third pipe organ to grace the concert hall since its opening. Surrounding the iconic design are the coins identifying marks. Inscriptions read REPUBLIK OSTERREICH, 1 UNZE GOLD, 999.9, 2003, and 100 EURO.

On the reverse side, a delightful array of musical instruments takes center stage. A prominent cello stands proudly in the middle, flanked by two violins on each side. Completing the ensemble, the background showcases a bassoon, harp, and horn. Inscriptions on this field read WIENER PHILHARMONIKER.

The Musikverein, founded in 1870, stands as a testament to extraordinary musical performances. With a capacity of over 1,700 seats and room for an additional 300 standing attendees, it has hosted countless unforgettable concerts since its inauguration on January 6th, 1870. One of the worlds most well-known orchestras, the Wiener Philharmoniker, calls the Musikverein its home.
