In 1986, the United States Mint launched the American Eagle Coin program. The 1/2 oz gold coins were introduced in the same year. Right now, you can purchase American Eagle Gold Coins in four different gold weights: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz. The coins also come in bullion, proof, and uncirculated versions. There are also four different metal types, including silver, gold, platinum, and palladium, which each feature different obverse and reverse designs.

Obverse

The obverse face of these coins bears the image of Lady Liberty as she walks away from the Capitol building with the sun at her back. In one hand, she holds an olive branch. In the other, she carries a lit torch. The design was introduced in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for use on Gold Double Eagle Coins.

Reverse

The reverse side of the coins features sculptor Miley Busieks depiction of a bald eagle family. In the image, a female and hatchling wait in their nest, while a male clutching an olive branch flies back toward them. The design was created just for these coins in 1986.

Ordering

The coins all ship in plastic flips from our secure facility. These flips will protect the coins during shipping and storage. Each coin contains 91.67% 22-karat gold by weight. This ends up equaling 1/2 Troy ounce of pure gold content. In addition to the gold, these coins contain silver and copper, making them more durable.
