Those who have purchased Canadian coins in the past from the Royal Canadian Mint are familiar with some of the many popular coin programs the mint has issued over the years. From focusing on the Olympic Games the nation has hosted to its many outdoor activities, the Royal Canadian Mint focuses on Canadian life in the vast majority of its commemorative gold coin programs. Designs vary from scenes of everyday life to native wildlife and the stunning vistas found across the Canadian nation.

Obverse

On the obverse of $200 Canadian Commemorative Gold Coins is Queen Elizabeth II. While you will find Her Majesty on all coins, you will not necessarily find the same design on all coins. The two most common designs are the two most recent. The current design is the 2003 effigy from Susanna Blunt still in use today. Prior to that, Dora de Pedery-Hunts third-generation effigy of the Queen graced commemorative gold coins from 1990 to 2002. Other possible designs, though harder to come by, are Arnold Machins second-generation design used from 1965 to 1989 and Mary Gillicks first-generation design used between 1952 and 1964. Inscriptions can vary, but typically include ELIZABETH II and D.G. REGINA. A date mark will also feature on this side.

Reverse

The reverse design of the $200 Canadian Commemorative Gold Coins in this listing brings chance into play with your purchase. There is no guarantee on the design you will receive with your purchase. These images can range from animals that roam the wilds of Canada to the stunning scenery of the nation. Inscriptions will vary by coin, but most include the purity, weight, and metal content, as well as the face value.

History

The Royal Canadian Mint was founded in 1908. The Ottawa Mint was initially a branch of the Royal Mint, but today serves as one of two branches of the Royal Canadian Mint, the other being the Winnipeg Mint.
