Continental Europe was once awash in various denominations of gold coins representing various fiat currencies. From the Franc-based coins of the Latin Monetary Union to the British Sovereign Gold Coin and the Kroner/Krone coins of Denmark and Sweden, countless gold coins once circulated. Today, you can still find those coins as collectible items worthy of your investment. Provident Metals now has 20 Kroner Danish Gold Coins in circulated condition available to you for purchase online at Provident Metals.
When you purchase one of these 20 Kroner Danish Gold Coins from Provident Metals, you will receive coins that are in circulated condition. Coins in this condition can showcase a range of potential flaws. Most of these flaws include issues like contact marks, hairlines, and general wear and tear on the relief of the design strike. The coins offered here come with individual protective plastic flips. Please note that we cannot guarantee a specific date mark in this listing. You may, as a result, receive varying date marks or all matching date marks when buying more than one.
King Christian IX of Denmark is featured on the obverse of 20 Kroner Danish Gold Coins. This effigy was the first used in the series and depicts Christian IX in right-profile relief. The inscription on this face of the coin includes CHRISTIAN IX KONGE AF DANMARK.
A seated figure is found on the reverse side of 20 Kroner Danish Gold Coins. This design was used early in the reign of Christian IX and features a figure in left-profile relief seated with the Royal Banner of the Kings of Denmark. The figure is seated with a scepter in its right hand and a porpoise beneath its frame. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read 20 KRONER.
The Kroner remains the official currency of Denmark to this day, but the gold coins of the series are no longer in production. The Kroner Danish Gold Coins were introduced in 1873, ten years into the reign of Christian IX. The coins were issued in 10 and 20 Kroner denominations through 1917. Though the coins were reintroduced in 1926 and struck again in 1927, 1930, and 1931, none of those coins ever made it into circulation.
