Switzerlands Swiss franc is the official currency of the country. The history of the franc denomination in Switzerland includes a number of changes. However, one of the most popular gold coins issued in the 20 francs denomination is the Helvetia design, which is also called the Vreneli range. Today, you can buy a 20 Francs Swiss Helvetia Gold Coin in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition.
Highlights:
All of the coins in this listing ship to your door in protective plastic to prevent damage during the shipping and storing process. These coins are in BU condition, which means that they will look brand new.
Obverse
The obverse of these coins showcases the bust of Helvetia who is considered the female personification of Switzerland. Helvetia has flowing hair with a braid, and you can see the Swiss Alps poking out from behind her head. The coins were designed in 1895 by Fritz Ulysse Landry.
Reverse
On the reverse of each coin, you will see the coat of arms of Switzerland. The coat of arms includes the national shield in the center along with a traditional cross. In the background, you can see oak leaves. Both the year of issue and face value are engraved on the reverse side of the coin.
History
The Swiss Helvetia 20 Francs Gold Coins have an interesting history. These coins were put into production in the early 1880s with an image of a crowned Helvetia. The coins in this listing dont have the crowned design, however, and they were issued from 1897 to 1935 and again from 1947 to 1949.
