In the late 16thcentury, the rulers of Japan introduced a new form of gold coinage that would go on to form part of a three-tiered monetary system that would persist for more than 200 years. The Oban was a popular oval-shaped gold coin used in Japan and is remembered today as a truly unique piece of coinage history. When you purchase one of these 2 oz Silver Oban Commemorative Medals online at Provident Metals, you will receive a silver medal that is housed in a protective acrylic capsule and offered with a presentation box. Each medal comes with its own Certificate of Authenticity and distinctive visual finishes. These finishes include a hammered texture on both sides, as well as hand-applied ink on the inscriptions on both fields.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2 oz Silver Oban Medal replicates the appearance of one of the original Oban gold coin plates. These inscriptions include Kiri stamps with red ink applied on the stamps and black in on the Japanese text.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 2 oz Silver Oban Commemorative Medals, you will find additional Japanese text inscriptions. This side of the replica medal comes inscriptions of 2 TROY OUNCES .999 FINE SILVER.
History
The original Oban coinage was a gold coin plate that was the highest denomination in a three-tiered system of Japanese coinage. This system of coinage consisted of bronze, silver, and gold coins. Each one of these Silver Oban Commemorative Medals has a 24-karat gold plating to better replicate the appearance of an Oban coin.

When the subtotal of your purchase, including applicable discounts, is $199 or more, you receive free shipping for your entire order. In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies. All products are discreetly packaged and shipped with full insurance included.
Most Provident orders are shipped within one (1) business day of your payment clearing. Payments made via PayPal clear instantly. Bitcoin payments clear instantly once the transaction is confirmed. Credit Card and bank wire payments process within 1 business day. ACH and paper check payments take 3-5 business days. Once payments are processed, products are released to fulfillment for packaging and shipping.
All orders of $199 or more that are eligible for free shipping are, by default, shipped via a carrier of our choice (USPS or UPS). Depending on the contents and size of your purchase, you may be able to upgrade to a specific carrier during checkout.
For those orders of $999.99 or less, there is no need to sign for your package. However, you may select the option to require a signature at delivery if you want. This can be chosen and paid for at checkout. All orders of $1000 or more require a signature to complete delivery.
