Obverse

On the obverse side of 2 oz Silver Gargoyle Rounds is a depiction of a gargoyle from the faade of the Sacre Coeur in Paris, France. This particular gargoyle from the exterior is a pig whose open mouth serves as a spout to direct water away from the foundation of the building when it rains. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris took nearly 40 years to complete and was built as a form of national penance following Frances defeat at the hands of the Prussians in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.

Reverse

The reverse face of each 2 oz Silver Gargoyle round comes with an inscription through the center of Gargoyles of the World. The O in the word gargoyle is the largest of the letters and features a gargoyle perched at its apex. Around the design elements edge, you will notice a Gothic window-frame design.

History

The Sacre Coeur, as it is known in French, is a Roman Catholic church within the city and minor basilica. It was built atop the highest geographic point in the city and located in the Paris Commune to crown it as the most rebellious neighborhood in the city during the Franco-Prussian War.
