As the Egyptian Gods Series continues, the eighth design in the collection focuses on the god of the Moon, sacred texts, mathematics, science, and much more. One of the most important roles that Thoth filled was as a scribe, recording the deeds of deities and weighing the ability of people to pass on into the afterlife. Provident Metals now has 2 oz Silver Antique Thoth Rounds available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase one of these 2 oz Silver Antique Thoth Rounds online at Provident Metals, you will receive your rounds individually in a plastic flip or by multiples of 10 silver rounds in a protective tube. These rounds have an antique finish that creates an ancient patina for the appearance. The high-relief strike creates improved 3D relief on the design elements and greater visual depth in the background.
Obverse
The obverse side of the Silver Antique Thoth Round comes with a depiction of Thoth seated on a throne. He appears here with the head of an ibis, one of the two animal forms that Thoth takes in Egyptian mythology. In addition to the hieroglyphs from his cartouche, the field includes the tools of a scribe, allowing Thoth to record the messages of the deities.
Reverse
On the reverse face of the 2 oz Silver Antique Thoth Round is a vision of Thoth in animal form. He is shown here as a baboon seated in left-profile relief on a small boat. This is all set in front of a pyramid with a wall of hieroglyphs in the background. At the bottom of the design field, you will find the inscriptions of 2 OZ, 999, and AG.
History
One of Thoths biggest roles involves the death process. During the funerary process, Thoth weights the heart of the recently departed to determine if the individual was worthy of passing into the afterlife or would meet a worse fate.
