History

Interestingly, the engraving on the $2 bill is actually more historically accurate than Trumbull’s original painting in one respect. In the original, the committee is shown presenting an engrossed (final) copy of the Declaration, which wasn’t actually created until after the document was adopted. The engraving on the bill corrects this, showing Jefferson holding a rough draft.
