Obverse
Adolph A. Weinman’s timeless design of Walking Liberty graces the obverse side of the 1999 American Eagle Silver Coins. Originally used by the United States Mint on the US half dollar between 1916 and 1947, this design is now considered one of the most iconic and recognizable in American coinage. Inscriptions read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1999.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 1999 Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin features the striking image of John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle. This design depicts a bald eagle with the US national shield on its chest, holding the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons, with a triangular cluster of 13 stars above its head. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, and ONE DOLLAR.
History
The 1999 release of American Silver Eagles marked a significant jump in demand. However, this was just a prelude to the jumps in mintage that would take place in the next decade. While the early 2000s offered modest gains, the late-2000s offered even higher jumps in demand.
