The American Eagle Gold Series is one of the leading bullion programs in the world. Introduced in 1986, the American Eagle Gold Coin is younger than only the South African Krugerrand, Canadian Maple Leaf, and the Chinese Panda. Available in four weights, the 1/4 oz Gold Coin in the series is the second-smallest coin. Provident Metals currently has 1997 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins available to you for purchase online.
When you purchase a 1997 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin online in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that is packaged in a protective flip. The coins of the American Eagle Gold Series are 22-karat gold specimens. US Mint gold coins with this gold content feature 91.67% gold, 5.33% copper, and 3% silver.
The obverse side of 1997 American Eagle Gold Coins features a depiction of Liberty in front-facing relief. The design shows Libertys full-length figure as she strides forward holding a torch in her right hand and carrying an olive branch in her left. Rays of sunshine fill the background and frame her figure as the U.S. Capitol Building is near her feet and a ring of 50 stars encircles the field. The coins have inscriptions of LIBERTY and 1997 on this side.
On the reverse face of 1997 American Eagle 1/4 oz Coins is the image of a family of bald eagles. The design on this side of the coins was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek and was exclusive to this series. The design shows an eagle flying over the nest with a branch in its talons while another eagle guards hatchlings in the nest. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD, and 10 DOLLARS.
The highest mintage figure in the history of the 1/4 oz Gold Coin in the American Eagle Series remains the 1986 debut issue with total sales of 726,031 coins. From a low of 36,100 coins in 1991, mintage grew each year in the 1990s with the exception of 1996. After that one-year dip, demand surged in 1997 by nearly 50,000 coins to finish at 108,805 coins.
