American Eagle Gold Coins are some of the most popular in the world. One of the biggest benefits of this coin program is that the United States Mint offers fractional weight products for those who dont want to spend more money on the 1 oz options. Right now, you can purchase your very own 1996 American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Ships in lightweight plastic flips!
  • Mintage limited to only 39,287 coins!
  • Contains 1/2 Troy oz of actual gold content!
  • Face value of $25 (USD) is backed by the United States government.
  • 18th release of the 1/2 oz American Eagle Gold Coins!
  • Lady Liberty featured on the obverse.
  • Reverse bears the bald eagle family design from Miley Busiek.

In 1986, the United States Mint launched the American Eagle Coin program with a select few coin options. The 1/2 oz gold bullion coins were part of the initial launch, but other fractional weight coins have since been added to the program.

Now, the program offers gold coins in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold versions. There are bullion, proof, and uncirculated versions of each of these coins, and the United States Mint also offers American Eagles in silver, platinum, and palladium. There are different designs for each different metal type on both the obverse and reverse faces.

Obverse

On the obverse, these coins feature the image of Lady Liberty as she walks away from the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. The sun is hitting her back, and she is holding a lit torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. The design was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 for use on the Gold Double Eagle Coins.

Reverse

A bald eagle family is found on the reverse. In the design by sculptor Miley Busiek, a male bald eagle is seen returning to his nest with an olive branch clenched in his talons. Waiting for him is his mate and hatchling. The imagery was created just for these coins in 1986.

Ordering

When your coins arrive at your door, they will be in clear plastic flips. These plastic flips protect your coins during both shipping and storage, keeping them in the best condition. The coins each contain 91.67% gold by weight, containing exactly 1/2 Troy ounce of pure 22-karat gold. The rest of the coins composition is copper and silver, which just makes the coins more durable.
