During the 1990s, the United States Mint would experience one of the strongest periods of demand in the history of its American Eagle Gold Series. The Y2K craze that gripped the world shook global markets and pushed more investors toward safe-haven metals. Starting in 1994, buyers began snatching up more American Eagle Gold Coins year-over-year, culminating in near-record or record mintages for each of the four weights in the series. Provident Metals currently has 1994 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins available to purchase online.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with an individual protective flip!
  • 9th year of release in the American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Series!
  • Announced mintage of 72,650 gold coins!
  • Contains 1/4 Troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Issued a face value of $10 (USD) by the government of the United States.
  • The obverse features a portrait of Liberty.
  • On the reverse is a depiction of American bald eagles.

When you purchase one of these 1994 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins online at Provident Metals, you will receive a coin that is available in an individual protective flip. The coins in this listing came with an announced final mintage of 72,650. This was higher than the previous year and any previous date mark in the 1990s, but was lower than the 1995, 1997, 1998, and 1999 coins, as those dates all saw a surge in demand as the Y2K crisis loomed.

Obverse

The obverse of the 1994 American Eagle Gold Coin comes with a depiction of Lady Liberty. This historic design from the $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. It offers a full-length portrait of Liberty in front-facing relief. With the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet and sun rays in the background field, Liberty walks forward clutching a torch and an olive branch in her hands. The inscriptions include LIBERTY and 1994.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 1994 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins, the US Mint features the exclusive design of a family of bald eagles. This design from Miley Busiek includes a female eagle in the nest with a hatchling as a male eagle soars overhead. The design element includes inscriptions that read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD 10 DOLLARS.

History

The 1994 American Eagle Gold Coins generally saw a drop in demand compared to 1993. The 1/4 oz gold coin was the only one to experience an increase in demand, though the jump was relatively modest at just 786 coins in total.
