When the United States Mint introduced the Proof American Eagle Silver Coin, the product was originally produced at the San Francisco Mint facility. This continued for seven years in total with 1992 marking the last year the coins were struck in San Francisco. Today, you have an opportunity to own one of those final S coins with the 1992-S Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin available from Provident Metals in perfect condition.
Highlights:
The San Francisco Mint struck the bullion and proof American Eagle Silver Coins for several years when the program first launched in 1986. While the bullion version of the coin remained at San Francisco until 1998, the Proof American Eagle Silver Coin was only struck there from 1986 to 1992. Those collectors who pay close attention to these mint marks in the series will want the 1992 coin in their collection as the final date mark struck in San Francisco.
Obverse
On the obverse side, the 1992-S Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin features the left-profile bust of Walking Liberty. Created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this design is widely considered one of the two best American coin designs of the 20th century along with Augustus Saint-Gaudens image of Liberty. Weinmans Walking Liberty was originally used on the US half dollar until 1947.
Reverse
The oldest coin design in American history features on the reverse of 1992-S Proof American Eagle Silver Coins. This vision of the national seal was modified in 1986 for this series by John Mercanti. It depicts the bald eagle with the national shield on its chest and a triangular cluster of 13 stars above its head.
History
Proof American Eagle Silver Coins had a mintage of 498,654 coins. At that point in time, this was the lowest mintage in the history of the series. However, the years to come in the mid-1990s would result in significant drops in demand for the coin that would bring new record-low mintages.
Ordering
These 1992-S Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins have PF70 certifications that indicate each one has full, original mint luster and no detracting flaws. The UCAM label means the coins have strong, frosted designs with deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
