South African Krugerrand Coins have been available to investors since 1967 and the series was once the single most popular gold bullion collection in the world. The increase in alternative options and economic sanctions against South Africa in the 1980s toppled the Krugerrand, but it still remains a popular coin to this day. Right now, you can buy 1981 South African Krugerrand 1 oz Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.

  • Arrives with a protective plastic flip!
  • 15th coin in the South African Krugerrand 1 oz Gold Series!
  • Final mintage of 3,108,968 gold coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of actual gold content.
  • Paul Kruger features on the obverse.
  • Springbok antelope on the reverse.

With your purchase of a 1981 South African Krugerrand 1 oz Gold Coin in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that is housed in a protective plastic flip. These coins came with a final mintage of 3,108,968 specimens in total. This is the sixth-highest mintage in the history of the series.

Paul Kruger is on the obverse side of 1981 South African Krugerrand Gold Coins. This design element captures a portrait of Paul Kruger, first elected president of a new, free South African Republic. Kruger had previously been a leading figure in the Boer Wars and a leader in the triumvirate that governed prior to the establishment of the republic. Inscriptions include SUID-AFRIKA and SOUTH AFRICA.

A Springbok antelope is featured on the reverse of 1981 Krugerrand 1 oz Gold Coins. This medium-sized antelope is capable of something no other species of antelope can achieve. While running, the springbok will engage in pronking, a series of high jumps that eventually allow it to get as high as 6.6 feet above the ground. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read KRUGERRAND, 1981, FYNGOUD, 1 OZ, and FINE GOLD.

In 1981, the Krugerrand 1 oz Gold Coin reached its sixth-highest mintage in the history of the series. The 1981 release was also just the second to include fractional-ounce coins.
