History
The Peace Silver Dollar came about because of the Pittman Act, a federal law enacted in April of 1918. The law authorized the US Mint to produce 350 million new silver dollars. Initially, the Morgan Silver Dollar, which had not been struck since 1904, was selected. But after lobbying from an ANA committee that was inspired by the message of a numismatist named Farran Zerbe, a new coin in honor of the countrys post-WWI peace was designed. The result was the Peace Silver Dollar, struck from 1921 to 1928, and then again in 1934 and 1935.
