From 1905 to 1920, the United States Mint did not issue fresh silver dollars into circulation. Though silver dollars remained in circulation, predominantly in the American West, no new silver dollars were leaving the coining presses at the US Mint. In 1921, with authorization from the Pittman Act of 1918, the US Mint resumed coining silver dollars and did so with the historic Morgan Dollar design. Right now, you can buy certified 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with protective PCGS or NGC plastic slabs!
  • Struck in 1921!
  • Limited number of certified silver dollars available!
  • Contains .7734 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • Bears a face value of $1 (USD) fully backed by the American government.
  • Issued a Grade of Mint State 64 by the Professional Coin Grading Service or the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.

When you purchase the 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin available in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin that is Mint State 64 condition. A coin with this grade exhibits at least average mint luster. When it comes to flaws, you will likely notice small clusters of minor contact marks, one or two heavier marks, and/or small patches of visible hairlines. Please keep in mind that these coins may have matching mint marks and labels if you buy several. We cannot guarantee a specific specimen in advance.

Obverse

Lady Liberty graces the obverse side of all 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. This design shows Libertys head in left-profile relief. She wears a Phrygian cap at the top of her head with a coronet crown and laurel wreath on the head as well. Inscriptions on this side of the coin include E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1921, and includes a ring of 13 stars.

Reverse

The heraldic eagle of the United States features on the reverse of 1921 Morgan Dollar Coins. This visual was also created by George T. Morgan and features a front-facing American bald eagle. The eagle is shown with its wings spread as its talons clutch the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. The inscriptions on this field read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.

History

The 1921 Morgan Dollar Silver Coin was struck in massive quantities to help satisfy the early silver purchases by the Treasury following passage of the Pittman Act of 1918. A total of 86.73 million Morgan Dollars were struck in 1921 by the Philadelphia Mint, Denver Mint, and San Francisco Mint. The Philadelphia Mint coins have no mint marks, while the other two have D and S mint marks, respectively.
