In 1838, Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, created the design for the Liberty Head Eagle Coin. This $10 gold coin became the longest-running design in the US Eagle series. The $10 Liberty Eagle, produced from 1838 to 1907, is particularly notable. Currently, 1899 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins are available from Provident Metals in certified condition.
Highlights:
These 1899 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins are offered in Mint State 63 condition, with protective plastic slabs. Coins in this grade may show minor wear, small contact marks, and occasionally heavier marks or hairlines.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1899 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin features a portrait of Lady Liberty, created by Gobrecht in 1838. Liberty is shown in left-profile with a coronet crown, surrounded by 13 stars and the minting year at the bottom. Inscriptions on this side include LIBERTY and 1899.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1899 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin displays Gobrechts heraldic eagle design, featuring a bald eagle facing forward, with the national shield, arrows of war, and an olive branch. Type II coins include an added banner above the eagle with the national motto. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TEN D.
