In 1838, Christian Gobrecht, the 3rd Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, created the Liberty Head Eagle design. This $10 gold coin went on to become the longest-running design in the US Eagle series, lasting until 1907. Though the design was used on multiple gold denominations, the $10 Liberty Gold Eagle saw the longest production run. Right now, certified 1893 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 1893 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin comes in Mint State 64 condition. Coins with this grade show good mint luster and a few light contact marks, some of which may be visible in prominent areas of the design. Light hairlines may also be present on the surface.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 1893 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin is a portrait of Lady Liberty. Her left-facing profile is adorned with a coronet crown, and the design is surrounded by 13 stars to represent the original colonies. The date of issue is inscribed below. Inscriptions read LIBERTY and 1893.
Reverse
The reverse of the 1893 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin features the heraldic eagle of the United States. The bald eagle is shown with the national shield on its chest, clutching arrows and an olive branch. A banner above the eagle displays the national motto, marking it as a Type II coin. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and TEN D.
History
The 1893 Liberty Gold Eagles were minted at four different US Mint branches. The Philadelphia Mint had the highest mintage with 1,840,840 coins produced. The San Francisco Mint struck just over 141,000 coins, while New Orleans produced 17,000, and Carson City issued 14,000.
