The Morgan Dollar is one of the most collectible historic US silver coins. First issued in 1878, the coins were produced annually from 1878 to 1904. The Carson City Mint was one of four mints issuing coins during this period, but it issued Morgan Dollars for the shortest period of time during the 19th century and often issued the lowest number of coins per year. Right now, you can get 1885-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online at Provident Metals with NGC certification.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with individual protective plastic slabs from the NGC!
  • Last of the original, continuous strikes from the Carson City Mint!
  • Limited initial mintage of just 228,000 silver dollar coins!
  • Limited number of certified silver coins available!
  • Contains .7734 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • Bears individual face values of $1 (USD) fully backed by the American government.
  • Issued a Grade of Mint State 67 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • Lady Liberty on the obverse.
  • Heraldic eagle on the reverse.
  • Includes a CC mint mark from the Carson City Mint.

Provident Metals is pleased to offer the 1885-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin to you for purchase online with an NGC certification. These coins come with a Mint State 67 certification that means each exhibits original luster with no more than three to four minuscule contact marks. These contact marks may include one or two in the primary focal fields. There may be one or two small hairlines on this face of the coin, but these are not visible without magnification.

Obverse

Lady Liberty is found on the obverse side of 1885-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. This depiction of Liberty is set in left-profile relief and includes a laurel wreath with a Phrygian cap on her head. She also wears a coronet in her hair that has an inscription of LIBERTY on it. The other inscriptions on this side include E PLURIBUS UNUM and 1885. You will find 13 stars split on either side of Libertys bust, with six on one side and seven on the other.

Reverse

George T. Morgans version of the heraldic eagle of the United States graces the reverse of 1885-CC Morgan Dollar Coins. This image features a front-facing bald eagle with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The inscriptions on this side read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR.

History

Carson City Mint Morgan Dollars are some of the rarest remaining coins in the Morgan Dollar Series. The mint struck the coins from 1878 until 1885, paused coining from 1886 to 1888, and then struck the coins again from 1889 until the mints closure in 1893. Interestingly, the 1885-CC date mark was once much rarer than it is today, but of the 228,000 originally struck, some 148,300 were discovered in mint bags in the US Treasury vaults in the 1960s.
