When the US Treasury found that it was holding $3 million worth of uncirculated Morgan Dollars from the Carson City Mint in its vaults in the 1960s, it turned the collector world on its head. The Carson City Mint had the lowest original mintage figures for the coins in the 19th century and this discovery made a number of previously rare coins more readily available and in conditions that were once nearly impossible to find. Among the largest supply of these coins in the vaults of the US Treasury were Morgan Dollars issued between 1880 and 1885. Today, you have the chance to buy 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online at Provident Metals with GSA packaging.

The Carson City Mint was in operation from 1870 to 1885 and again from 1889 to 1893. From 1878 to 1885 and 1889 to 1893, the mint struck Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. Each of its production years consisted of the lowest totals among the mints that issued the Morgan Dollars. When the Treasury found the hoard of uncirculated Morgan Dollars, it discovered that the vast majority of Morgans initially struck never ended up in circulation, but rather had gone straight to US Treasury vaults.

Obverse

Lady Liberty is found on the obverse side of 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. This effigy of Liberty captures a Greco-Roman visual for the female allegory with a coronet in her hair that reads Liberty. She also has a wreath crown in her hair with a cap at the back of her head holding most of her hair up. A few strands of curly hair hang down the side of her face and neck. In addition to 13 stars on this field, there are inscriptions of E Pluribus Unum and 1882.

Reverse

George T. Morgans version of the heraldic eagle of the United States features on the reverse side of 1882-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. This version of the heraldic eagle depicts the national bird in front-facing relief with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The inscriptions on this side read United States of America, In God We Trust, and One Dollar. There is also a CC mint mark on this face of the coin that is located above the letter D in the word dollar.

History

The Government Services Administrations audit of the Morgan Dollars found in US Treasury vaults in the 1960s found varying levels for the various Carson City Mint dates in the series. The 1870s and 1890s issues from the mint were present in the lowest numbers, while the six date marks from the 1880s were astonishingly high. Of the 1.113 million coins issued in 1882, 605,000 of those were discovered in the Treasury vaults.
