One of two impressive coin designs created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, the Mercury Dime was a popular image on the US dime denomination and was produced by the US Mint from 1916 to 1945. The coin was officially known as the Winged Liberty Head Dime, but became colloquially known as the Mercury Dime because of Libertys resemblance to the Roman messenger god, Mercury. Provident Metals now offers $100 Face Value Bags of 90% Silver Mercury Dimes to you for online purchasing.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a bag that includes a total of 1,000 90% Silver Mercury Dimes!
  • Date marks include 1916-1945!
  • Contains .07234 Troy oz of actual silver content per coin.
  • Issued individual face values of $.10 (USD) per coin by the government of the United States.
  • On the obverse side is a bust of Liberty with the winged cap.
  • The reverse includes a Roman fasces with an olive branch.
  • Please keep in mind the bag will contain a wide variety of date marks.

When you purchase the $100 Face Value Bag of 90% Silver Mercury Dimes, you will receive a bag with a total of 1,000 US dimes included inside that all come from the Mercury Dime design program. These coins each have 90% silver content with a 10% copper alloy to complete the metallic makeup of the coin. Date marks available for this design program include 1916-1945. It is unlikely you will receive 1,000 dimes with the same date mark, so you should expect to see a variety of date marks within the bag. All coins are chosen at random to fulfill the advertised face value of $100 (USD).

Obverse

On the obverse face of the $100 Face Value 90% Silver Mercury Dime, you will find Adolph A. Weinmans left-profile bust of Liberty. In this design, Liberty is featured wearing a winged cap similar to that of the Roman messenger god Mercury, hence the common name for the dime series when it was in circulation. Inscriptions include the date mark, Liberty, and In God We Trust.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 90% Silver Mercury Dimes in this $100 Face Value Bag was also designed by Weinman. The design offers the image of a Roman fasces, a bundle of wooden rods used to symbolize power in the ancient world, comes with an olive branch wrapped around it. Inscriptions include United States of America, One Dime, and E Pluribus Unum.

History

The Mercury Dime replaced the Barber Coinage dime design from Charles E. Barber and was one of two images from Adolph A. Weinman selected in 1916 to replace Barber designs. The other was, of course, the popular Walking Liberty image. The Mercury Dime remained in production until 1945 when it was replaced by a bust of the recently-deceased President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
