When the Apollo 11 mission first took off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on July 16, 1969, nobody knew what the outcome would be. The trip to the moon was successful, and two American men even got to walk on the surface of the moon. This achievement proved that the United States had superior technology to the other countries in the world. Right now, you can celebrate the 50th anniversary of this mission with the 1 oz Silver Proof-Like Apollo 11 Liftoff Round from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Ships inside a protective Air-Tite capsule!
  • 1st release in the Apollo 11 Series!
  • Mintage limited to just 5,000 rounds!
  • Sold out at the mint!
  • Each round contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Obverse image is that of the Apollo 11 spacecraft launching.
  • Reverse image features an American bald eagle landing on the moon.
  • Proof-like finish.
  • Edge-lettered serial numbers are unique to each round.

The rounds in this listing have a proof-like finish. To protect this finish, all the rounds will ship to your door in protective air-tite capsules. Since only 5,000 of these rounds were created, it is important to treat them with great care to help them hold their value.

Obverse

As the first design in the series, it is fitting that this round showcases the Apollo 11 shuttle launching toward space. In the image, you see the exact moment that the Saturn V rockets come to life as flames are expelled out the bottom of the spacecraft. You can see thick plumes of smoke around the bottom of the ship as well. Around the edge of the obverse face of the round, you will see the phrase, All Engines Running, Lift Off. We Have a Lift Off.

Reverse

The reverse face of all of the rounds in the Apollo 11 Series feature the same image. This image shows an eagle, which is representative of the Eagle lunar lander, with outstretched wings as it approaches the surface of the moon. In the eagles talons, you will see an olive branch, which was meant to symbolize the fact that we had come to the moon in a peaceful manner.

History

As only the fifth manned mission to space for NASA, the Apollo 11 mission was risky. However, in July of 1969, NASA successfully sent man to the moon. An even greater accomplishment was returning all three crew members safely to Earth after the eight-day mission was complete.
