Each one of the Norse deities has a unique background story. In the case of Hel, she is the daughter of the trickster god Loki and a giantess by the name of Angerboda. She is one of three children the pair have and lives in the land of the giants. Odin, ruler of Asgard, fears the woe and misfortune the offspring of Loki and Angerboda could bring. He would summon them to Asgard and eventually cast them out into various corners of the immortal realm.

History
