History

The term Jack-o-Lantern is rooted in the strange phenomenon noticed in the British Isles of light flickering above peat bogs. In 1660s England, this phenomenon was known as will-o-the-wisps. This same terminology was later applied to carved pumpkins as Jack-o-the-lantern, or Jack-o-Lantern.
