Folklore from across the world is rich with tales of mysterious creatures, and one of the most famous in the Americas is the Chupacabra. The name Chupacabra, meaning “goat-sucker” in Spanish, comes from its supposed habit of attacking and drinking the blood of livestock, particularly goats. Provident Metals is excited to offer the 1 oz Silver Chupacabra Rounds.
Highlights:
The 1 oz Silver Chupacabra Rounds are part of a Cryptozoology-inspired series. Other mythical creatures in this collection include The Mothman, The Kraken, The Jersey Devil, Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster, and the Jackalope. These rounds are available individually in plastic flips or in protective tubes of 20.
Obverse
On the obverse of the Silver Chupacabra Round, you’ll find a depiction of the legendary Chupacabra in a slight left-profile relief, hovering over the body of a goat, seemingly caught in the act of draining its blood. The inscription reads CHUPACABRA.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 1 oz Silver Chupacabra Round features a common design for Intaglio Mint silver rounds, with an I-shaped column at the center, a beaded border, and the identifying hallmarks of the round. The mint’s name is also included on this side. Inscriptions on this side read INTAGLIO MINT, ONE TROY OUNCE, and .999 FINE SILVER.
History
Many scientists and wildlife experts suggest that Chupacabra sightings can be attributed to known animals suffering from mange or other conditions that alter their appearance. Coyotes and dogs with severe mange are often mistaken for Chupacabras. While initially associated with Puerto Rico, alleged Chupacabra sightings have been reported in many other countries, including Mexico, Chile, Russia, and the Philippines, as well as several U.S. states.
