Starting in 2018, the South Korean Tiger series has quickly become a favorite from KOMSCO. Each year presents a new obverse design, with the final one debuting in 2024. This concluding release beautifully depicts the Korean tiger one last time. The 1 oz Silver 2024 South Korean Tiger Medals are now available online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The tigers that historically inhabited the Korean peninsula survived on a variety of other local species for survival. Their primary prey consisted of deer (such as sika deer and roe deer), wild boar, and other medium to large mammals found in the region. The final medal design showcases this tiger with Hallasan National Park featured in the background on the reverse side.
Obverse
The obverse of the 1 oz Silver South Korean Tiger Medal portrays a majestic Korean tiger. In this final design, the tiger is shown leaping out from the foliage, perhaps hunting. The design also includes an engraved paw print and the name of Hallasan. Inscriptions here read KOREAN TIGER, 2024, 1 OZ, and HALLASAN.
Reverse
On the reverse of the Silver 2024 South Korean Tiger Medals, the series’ consistent design element is featuredthe Korean peninsula. This image uses characters from the Korean alphabet to form the peninsula’s shape, without political boundaries. The inscriptions read REPUBLIC OF KOREA and FINE SILVER 999.
History
Hallasan National Park is located on Jeju Island and includes the Hallasan volcano. Hallasan, the highest point in South Korea at 6,388 feet, is a shield volcano surrounded by the national park. A picturesque lake within the volcano is depicted on the medal.
