Obverse
On the obverse of 2023 Sacred Heart 1 oz Silver Rounds you will find a depiction of the Sacred Heart. This symbolic image represents the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. History
The early popularity of the Sacred Heart is largely due to a 17th-century nun named Margaret Mary Alacoque. Also considered a mystic, Alacoque reportedly received three apparitions of Jesus over an 18-month period beginning in 1673. According to her accounts, Jesus asked that he be honored through the symbol of his holy heart. Alacoques journal entries describing the apparitions were later published after her death and became widely read among Christians.
