Obverse

On the obverse of the Gold Queens Beast Completer Bar, the 10 heraldic beasts are displayed in a circular pattern. Designed by Jody Clark, the layout places Queen Elizabeth II at the center, using the classic 1952 portrait by Mary Gillick. The beasts surrounding her include the Lion of England, Griffin of Edward III, Falcon of the Plantagenets, Black Bull of Clarence, Yale of Beaufort, White Lion of Mortimer, White Greyhound of Richmond, Red Dragon of Wales, Unicorn of Scotland, and White Horse of Hanover.

Reverse

The reverse of the 1 oz Gold Queens Beast Completer Bar shows The Royal Mints official emblem, set against a detailed guilloche background. Inscriptions on this side provide important details about the bar, such as its weight, purity, and metal content. Inscriptions read THE ROYAL MINT, 1 OZ, 999.9, and FINE GOLD.

History

The Queens Beast concept has its origins in the reign of King Henry VIII. During the 1530s, he had a series of large, painted plaster figures made to line the moat bridge of Hampton Court Palace. These beasts were symbolic, representing his royal ancestry, and were meant to make a strong visual impact. Unlike the temporary versions used during Queen Elizabeth IIs coronation, Henrys statues were created to be permanent markers of his authority.
