History

The Gadsden Flag originated with the Continental Marines and the Continental Navy. The original design included the phrase Dont Tread on Me, a common response among the Colonials to the oppression of Great Britain. The original snake had a tail with 13 rattles, one for each of the American Colonies breaking away and seeking independence.
