One of the best ways to invest in bulk silver is to purchase historic US circulation coins. Commonly known as junk silver, these coins are only considered junk silver from a numismatic perspective because the designs are often worn and the coins show signs of flaws as a result of handling in circulation. In reality, these coins still retain great value as an investment in physical silver as each one issued 1964 and earlier has 90% silver content. Right now, you can buy $1 Face Value 90% Silver Roosevelt Dimes online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of a $1 Face Value lot of 90% Silver Roosevelt Dimes, you receive a total of 10 US dimes from the Roosevelt design series. This coin design was introduced in 1946 and is still in production today, but only those coins struck through 1964 feature 90% silver content. As such, the only date marks you can receive through this listing include 1946 to 1964. Please keep in mind that we cannot guarantee the date marks of the coins you receive. While all will come from the 1946-1964 range, you may receive 10 matching date marks or a range of different dates.
Obverse
The obverse of the 90% Silver Roosevelt Dime was created by John R. Sinnock. This left-profile bust of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, the only man to serve more than two terms in office as President of the United States of America, was created in 1946. Roosevelts bust replaced the famed Mercury Dime and this denomination was chosen following Roosevelts death in 1945 as a result of his involvement launching the March of Dimes.
Reverse
On the reverse side of 90% Silver Roosevelt Dimes is a depiction of a torch in the center flanked by oak and olive branches. The torch is reminiscent of that carried by Liberty in many depictions of the Lady. Sinnock initially submitted a reverse design that included a hand clutching the torch, olive branch, and oak branch together, but this design was eventually chosen for the coins.
History
From 1946 when it was introduced until 1964, the Roosevelt Dime consisted of 90% silver and 10% copper. As silver prices began to increase in the 1960s, the US Mint and Treasury Department made a decision to switch national coinage away from silver to a new cupro-nickel alloy as the face value assigned to each denomination was actually much less than the silver content of the circulation coins.
