History

The Aztecs were a people who ruled the areas of central and southern Mexico from roughly 1345 to 1521. Similar to the Maya tribe before them, the Aztecs developed a spectacular civilization with a highly developed culture. Scholars today compare some of their temples and palaces to the pyramids in terms of sheer size and sophistication. However, some of these temples were used for human sacrifice, which tarnishes the reputation of the Aztecs somewhat.
