Obverse
The shield of Chiwoo is found on the obverse of 2022 South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang 1/10 oz Gold Medallions. This shield has appeared on all releases in this series with only slight modifications. Central to it is the image of the Doggaebi, a goblin-like creature from South Korean folklore. The Doggaebi can be deceptive but is also capable of guarding against evil spirits. You will see inscriptions on the obverse also that read 2022 FINE GOLD, .999 REPUBLIC OF KOREA, KOMSCO, 1/10 CLAY.
Reverse
For the reverse side of 2022 South Korean 1/10 oz Gold Medallions you will find Chiwoo Cheonwang in action. In this all-new design, Chiwoo faces right in a crouching position as he aims his bow. He also sports a magnificent suit of armor that includes a sword and a quiver of arrows on the back. Inscribed on the reverse are the words CHIWOO CHEONWANG.
History
Chiwoo Cheonwang holds an important place in both South Korean and Chinese culture. Likened to an Eastern version of Charlamagne, Chiwoos famous exploits on the battlefield include historic claims as well as mythological phenomena. For instance, while some believe he was a founding father of China, it is also believed that he could breathe fog on the battlefield to obscure his enemys vision.
